After consultation and recommendations from state and local emergency management, our area is anticipating severe weather from Hurricane Helene overnight Thursday and continuing into the early hours of Friday morning.
We are anticipating the weather to be out of our area by Friday around lunch. However, with the uncertainty of potential damage, power outages, road issues, and with the safety of all of our stakeholders in mind, the Toombs County School System will be
closed for students and staff on Friday, September 27th.
We will return to normal operations on Monday, September 30th. Please stay tuned to our social media outlets and communication tools for any further updates.

The Toombs County School System is closely monitoring Hurricane Helene in collaboration with local emergency management officials.
We will have normal school operations tomorrow, Sept. 26.
A decision regarding school on Friday, Sept. 27 will be made tomorrow afternoon.
Please stay tuned to our school communication outlets for the latest updates on school operations.

LUES FAMILY FOCUS: HOMEWORK HELP & STUDY SKILLS
Be Supportive: Above all, be a source of support and encouragement for your child. School can be very difficult, so let your child know that you believe in them and are there to help them succeed. Please continue to communicate with us at LUES!

LUES FAMILY FOCUS: HOMEWORK HELP & STUDY SKILLS
Stay Organized: When is the last time you looked in your child's backpack? Please check it regularly for organization and cleanliness. Come up with a designated day each week/month to clean out backpacks with your child. Emphasize the importance of staying organized by using tools like folders, binders, agendas, or digital apps to keep track of class materials, notes, and assignments.

Early next week, all Toombs County schools will be conducting practice lockdown drills required by HB 147. The drills must be conducted by October 1st of each year as part of our commitment to ensuring the safety and preparedness of our students and staff. The drills will take place during the school day and will follow established safety protocols.
Key Points to Note:
Drills will occur at each school, with staff guiding students throughout the process.
Local law enforcement will be present to assist and monitor.
These drills are purely precautionary and designed to ensure everyone knows the proper procedures in case of an actual emergency.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work together to keep our schools safe. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s school administration.

LUES FAMILY FOCUS: HOMEWORK HELP & STUDY SKILLS
Take Regular Breaks: Encourage your child to take short breaks during study sessions to reset and recharge. Breaks can improve concentration and retention, especially as the end of a long day. Please continue to communicate with us here at LUES.

LUES FAMILY FOCUS: HOMEWORK HELP & STUDY SKILLS
Time Management: Help your child establish time management skills, such as estimating how much time a task will take and allocating sufficient time for studying and completing assignments. This is a skill that will last them a lifetime! Can your child read an analog clock (not digital)? Does your child know how to calculate elapsed time? These are all skills that students struggle with during math class. This will also help with teaching time management at home. Always reach out to anyone at LUES for questions or concerns.

How do you feel when you get a compliment/encouragement from a stranger? Pretty good? It's a good feeling when someone notices something about you. But what about when someone you really care about compliments/encourages you? That's a great feeling, and it's what our kids feel when we use words to point out how special they are. A child who feels valued and accepted by his or her family can change the world. So don't underestimate the importance of keeping a list of compliments/words of encouragement for kids on hand.
If you struggle to be creative with your words, here is a list to try.
