LUES 7 MINDSETS END OF THE YEAR PROJECT: LUES is going to hold a CEREAL BOX CHALLENGE for our end of the year 7MS project to incorporate all 7 Mindsets studied this year. We will be collecting boxes of cereal for those in need in our community. However, before we donate the cereal, we will build a GIANT DOMINO LINE throughout our school with the boxes. The more donations, the longer our domino line will be. The grade that donates the most cereal will earn extra recess. The DOMINO LINE will be MAY 14TH. Start bringing in those donations to your homeroom teacher!

LUES 7 Mindsets: The Time is Now Lesson- Let Yourself Be Vulnerable – When we’re vulnerable, we’re in a heightened state of emotion or energy. Whether we’re facing a fear, taking a risk, or expressing a deep emotion, our senses come alive and we really are at our best. Many people don’t allow themselves to be vulnerable, because they believe it’s a sign of weakness. In fact, allowing oneself to be vulnerable shows great strength. The greatest moments in life happen when we’re at our most vulnerable: when we first ride a bike, introduce ourselves to a future companion, or take the game-deciding shot. To become great, we must put ourselves in positions to become great, in which we are vulnerable and step out of your comfort zones.

March 15, 2024 Hello LUES Families, It’s hard to believe that we’re already preparing for the third and final i-Ready® Diagnostic from March 25-28, 2024. The third Diagnostic is an important benchmark for understanding your student’s growth, which is why it’s so important they try their best. These results allow us to better support them in achieving their goals for the year. The most important thing we can do is prepare students and motivate them to put forth their best effort. Here are a few things you can do to help support your student: · Make sure they get a good night’s rest before taking the Diagnostic! · Talk to your student about why the second Diagnostic is important. You can say things like: o The second Diagnostic helps you find out how much progress you’ve made since the beginning of the year. o It allows your teacher and I to celebrate your accomplishments! o Try your best, and do not rush—but don’t spend too much time on a question either. o Remember, questions on the Diagnostic change based on your answers to earlier questions. You will see some questions you don’t know. That is okay! Just try your best. · Let them know you’re excited to celebrate their progress. We will also celebrate their success and progress here at school! Thank you for your continued partnership in your student’s learning. Sincerely, Rhonda Stone Principal, LUES

Atentamente, Rhonda Stone Principal, LUES

LUES FAMILY FOCUS: Routines help students gradually develop a sense of responsibility and independence because of their predictive nature. They become more capable of managing their daily tasks without constant supervision and reminders because they know what to expect.

LUES 7 MINDSETS PARENT UPDATE: Do celebrate and support action plans in your home. When your children come to you with a plan of action for anything, to exercise more or spend more time on homework, applaud the effort. The Time Is Now is about taking action. As parents, we are part of our children’s Dream Teams and our encouragement of them and their dreams is paramount. Helping them find their purpose, what makes them truly happy, is part of the fun.

LUES 7 MINDSETS LESSON: THE TIME IS NOW--Get in the Zone – When we act out of anger, jealously, or resentment, we almost always get it wrong and cause more harm than good. The key is to recognize when we are out of sorts, stop taking action, and figure out a way to get in a better state of mind. When we can do this and get into our zone, the actions we take are much more effective and result in a far more positive outcome. This is not to say that justified anger isn’t appropriate, such as when we react to bullying or discrimination. The key is to think before we act, in all cases.

LUES is Celebrating our School-Based SLPs- Donna Spikes and Hayley Hughston! The Georgia Organization of School-based Speech Language Pathologists announces that March 11-15, 2024 is School-based SLP Week. We take this time to recognize the exceptional work of speech and language pathologists in the schools who advocate for all students with communication disorders. SLPs play a varied yet integral role in schools, serving on multidisciplinary teams to identify students with communication disorders, evaluating students, developing treatment plans and IEPs and scheduling and providing therapy services. Additionally, they maintain required certification by attending professional learning opportunities. They provide support and training to school staff and families of their students. In our district, SLPs also document services to Medicaid eligible students, providing additional revenue to the LEA. Hats off to these remarkable professionals, whose caring and expertise benefits so many. Their dedication to their students, their jobs and their professions deserves recognition.

LUES PARENT UPDATE FOR 7 MINDSETS LESSON: The Time is Now Do encourage your children to discover what motivates them and what makes them feel powerful. Tapping into these feelings and knowing what tools they might use to get into a “zone” and perform at an optimal level is a win-win for both parents and children. Talking with them about times where they felt their absolute best and figuring out what was unique about those moments is a great way to help them get back there. For some children, it’s a song or routine that makes them feel great. For others, the memory of a time they felt powerful is enough to think back to.
