Dear Parents, I hope this message finds you well. We wanted to bring to your attention a concerning trend that has recently emerged among some students at our school. It has come to our notice that certain inappropriate items have been flushed down the toilets, including a permanent marker, candy bars, ring pops, food wrappers, and pencils. This behavior has resulted in significant clogging issues in our restroom facilities. We have learned from our students that this mischief is part of a new TikTok trend. While we understand that trends can sometimes be enticing, we must emphasize the serious consequences that such actions can lead to—both in terms of restroom functionality and the potential for costly repairs. Fortunately, we are grateful for our dedicated maintenance staff, who quickly addressed the issues and prevented any major damage. However, we need your help to ensure that this behavior does not continue. We kindly ask that you speak with your children about the importance of using school facilities properly and the impact that their actions can have on our community. Please know that we are actively investigating this situation to determine who may be responsible for the inappropriate flushing of these items. Our goal is to maintain a safe and functional environment for all students. Thank you for your support and cooperation in this matter. LUES FAMILY FOCUS FOR MARCH: KEEPING STUDENTS MOTIVATED Be a Role Model: Demonstrate a strong work ethic, a love for learning, and resilience in the face of challenges. Children often mirror the behaviors they observe in their parents. On the other hand, they also appreciate transparency, so be honest about your own motivation and model overcoming it!

LUES FAMILY FOCUS FOR MARCH: KEEPING STUDENTS MOTIVATED Offer Choices: Allow your child to make choices and decisions when it is appropriate. Giving them some control over their learning can increase motivation and a sense of responsibility. Or, allow them to choose what happens after they have completed a necessary assignment or activity. Maybe there is a movie they want to watch or a game they want to play that motivates them to continue through the hard or boring work when they are avoiding it.

Kinsley Jeter, a 5th grader at Lyons Upper Elementary, participated in the Georgia Music Educators Association’s Statewide Elementary Honor Chorus. Approximately 300 of the best elementary singers in Georgia gathered at the Classic Center in Athens to rehearse and perform challenging and beautiful choral arrangements. At the finale of the concert the students performed a choral arrangement of Bill Withers’ song, Lovely Day. The finale included a solo part which Jeter auditioned for and received. The entire choir accompanied Jeter as she performed beautifully for a packed out Classic Center theater audience of about 2100 people. To simply be chosen to attend the Statewide Elementary Honor Chorus is a tremendous honor, but to receive the one solo for the evening truly distinguishes her in a class by herself. Jeter represented Toombs County and Toombs County Schools well as she sang beautifully on the stage.

LUES will celebrate WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY on March 21st. Rock Your Socks in support of Down Syndrome Awareness. Wear mismatch socks or fun socks on Friday, 3/21/25. Did you know individuals with Down Syndrome have 3 copies of chromosome #21- therefore, we celebrate WDSD on 3/21.

Your LUES leprechaun will bring home a lucky report card today 3/17/25 for St. Patrick's Day! Please sign it and return it tomorrow.

Minimize distractions, provide supplies, and establish a routine that includes study time. Clutter and chaos can cause a lack of motivation for children.

LUES FAMILY FOCUS FOR MARCH: KEEPING STUDENTS MOTIVATED Celebrate Effort, Not Just Outcomes: Emphasize the importance of effort and hard work. Praise your child for their dedication and perseverance rather than solely focusing on grades or end results. This can keep them motivated when they are struggling academically. This also teaches children that the most important thing is to try your best. NO one can ask more than 100% of what someone is capable of.
