The Toombs County After School Program has canceled tonight’s mandatory Parent Orientation and rescheduled it for Tuesday, Sept. 5th @ 6PM in the TCMS lunchroom.
After careful consideration and constant updates on power outages and road conditions affecting student transportation (dirt roads), school has been canceled for students on August 31st. Faculty and staff should report to work at 10AM on August 31st. School will resume regular hours for students and staff on Friday, Sept. 1st.
Depending on dirt road conditions Friday morning, parents may be asked to meet school buses. Please stay tuned to our school communication platforms for the latest updates.
After careful consideration and conversations with our local EMA and other officials, the Toombs County School System will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, August 30, 2023, for staff and students. This includes all afterschool activities and events on August 30th. The latest track of Hurricane Idalia is projecting wind gusts above 40 mph for our area along with several inches of rain. Please note, this is never an easy decision to cancel school because of the many dynamics in play for our community and its people. Essentially, however, it boils down to the safety of all of our stakeholders, and we will err on the side of caution. Please stay tuned to our school communication platforms for the latest updates via School System App Notifications, Social Media Outlets, District Website, Email, and Local Radio Stations. As of now, we plan to resume normal school operations on Thursday, August 31, 2023.
A special "Thank You" to Captain Jordan Kight of the Toombs County Sheriff's Department for taking time out of his busy schedule to speak to 8th grade ACE students Tuesday. As an adjunct to our study of The Outsiders, Capt. Kight provided information about gangs, discussing their purpose, activities, recruitment tactics, and rivalries. Captain Kight reached out to our eighth graders by comparing the levels and activities of gangs to social interactions that are familiar to our students. Fantastic job, Capt. Kight!
We know our students want to look their very best on picture day. As we continue to monitor the weather, Pix Photography has graciously agreed to allow us to reschedule our picture day. We will let you know the rescheduled date at a later time.
Toombs County Schools is closely monitoring Hurricane Idalia in collaboration with local emergency management officials. The latest forecast track and information from the National Weather Service indicate the impacts to our area are to begin Wednesday morning. We advise everyone to continue to monitor the forecast track and we will update you this afternoon if inclement weather is expected to affect normal school operations. In case of severe weather, Toombs County Schools parents, guardians, staff, and students can expect to hear from us through the following channels: School System App Notifications, Social Media Outlets, District Website, Email, and Local Radio Stations.

Water is back on at all Toombs County Schools.
Important Message: The Toombs County Schools were notified that the city of Lyons had a major water leak that needed repair. We were informed that our schools would not be affected by the repairs. Unexpectedly, all 4 of our schools in town are now without water. We have been informed that the water should be back on soon.
